LPG

No matter where you live, LPG is an effective alternative for heating your home, hot water, real flame fires, cooking and even running your vehicle! Liquefied Petroleum Gas (propane and butane) comes from the same family of fuels as oil, petrol, and mains gas (methane).

It exists as a gas under normal atmospheric pressure and becomes a liquid at very low temperatures and under pressure. This means it can be conveniently stored as a liquid in a pressurised steel cylinder or tank.

When the pressure is release the liquid boils to form a vapour and increases its volume about 250 times. When ignited this vapour produces a very hot flame which makes it an excellent fuel for heating your home.

Storage

LPG is stored under pressure in vessels of various sizes. If space is limited or only a small gas supply is required, small cylinders are appropriate. When gas is required for central heating, a small bulk tank will be required and five sizes are available. The tank can be fixed above ground or stored underground. The first option is the most economical. Planning permission is normally required for bulk tanks.
