Wood Pellets
Countrywide supplies 6mm wood pellet in single bags and in bulk. Bulk deliveries are available in bags or blown, minimum delivery 1 tonne.
6mm wood pellets cost approximately a third less than oil, with the rising prices of oil set to continue into the future this margin will increase significantly.
During the wood pellet process, lignin is released from the wood to create a natural binding agent; therefore no other agents are used.
Countrywide Wood Pellets
- Sourced from FSC or equivalent certified suppliers
- Produced in the UK
- Contain <10% moisture content
- Less than 97.5% mechanical durability
- Very low ash content
- Conforms to wood pellet standard CEN / TS 14961*
- The small amount of ash that is removed is very high in nutrients and can be used as a high grade fertiliser in the garden!
* CEN is the technical committee developing the European standards for biofuels. Standards in biofuels ensure the reliability, efficiency and trouble free operation of the wood fuel giving our customers confidence in our product. The standards must include the origin of the material as well as the physical and chemical characteristics of the fuel.

What is Wood Pellet
Wood pellets are a compact form of wood which have low moisture content (typically a maximum of 8-15%) and a high energy density. Although they are currently more expensive than logs and wood chip they are easier to handle and are ideal for automated systems. Their bulk density is around 4 times that of wood chip as they are compressed, requiring less storage room making them more convenient for smaller scale installations.
The energy content of the pellet is related to its’ moisture content. High moisture content will slow the combustion process as the moisture has to be boiled off before the pellet can burn.
The most common pellets are made from dry sawdust and ground wood chips. Resins and binders (Lignin) occurring naturally in the sawdust hold wood pellets together and they usually contain no additives.
Although the chemical constituents and moisture content of different biomass materials vary, pellet fuel has common characteristics with developed fuel standards. These voluntary industry standards assure as much uniformity in the final product as is possible for naturally grown materials that become processed.
- Consistent size and moisture content
- Less volume to transport and store
- Versatile – can be used in stoves and boilers
- Can be used in automatic machinery
- Easy and clean to handle
- Easy to ignite
- Less ash and emissions
